‘Mad Monk’ Uncovered: The Controversial Life & Story Of Rasputin's Penis

The story of Grigori Rasputin’s penis is one that’s been told throughout history. While his corpse is long gone, one piece of him managed to stay preserved to this day.

Let’s dive right in. Who was the Mad Monk, and what part of him is now in the Museum of Erotica in Russia?

Who Was Grigori Rasputin?

Grigori Rasputin was born on the 20th of January, 1869, in a small Siberian village called Pokrovskoye. The area of Pokrovskoye was notorious for housing many of Russia’s criminals and prison colonies.

Rasputin’s parents tried to have a child seven times before Grigori was born. He was the only child that lived. Unfortunately, the others passed away during childbirth or early infancy.

As a teen, he drank, stole, and bothered the locals. By the age of 28, he was married to a woman from a neighboring village and had four children of his own. Allegedly, he was an alcoholic who was both abusive and disloyal to his wife.

As the story goes, Grigori once stole a horse. When authorities came looking for him, he fled rather than staying to face the consequences. He stayed in a Monastery with the Christian brothers residing there.

It was there he met Makarij, a monk who wanted to help Grigori change his ways. Later in life, Grigori became known as the Mad Monk, a name he was given for partaking in sinful acts.

While traveling with Makarij, he would meet the cult known as the Khylystys. This group of Christian brothers would hold secret meetings in the woods. When Rasputin returned home, he allowed the Khylystys to meet in his basement. He is said to have returned a changed man - let’s see why.

A Controversial Healer

Rasputin supposedly healed horses who were sick by touching them. The fellow villagers of Pokrovskoye saw this and had divided opinions.

Half of the village saw Rasputin as the second coming of Christ and placed him next to religious icons. However, the latter saw him as demonic and the devil’s apprentice.

He claimed that the Virgin Mary spoke to him and said he needed to go to St Petersburg to help the royal family.

Grigori used Makarij’s connections to attract clients who believed in his healing abilities. Makarij sent a letter to his connections in St Petersburg, introducing Rasputin and his powers.

Grigori then began his long journey to the city, where he met Bishop Hermogen and the high-level priest Sergei Trufanov. These men thought he smelt horrible and had a terrifying stare. Rasputin’s gaze became somewhat famous - he could dilate his eyes on command.

After the men saw Rasputin’s healing abilities, they claimed he was a saint gifted with powers from God.

Advisor to Royalty

The Mad Monk became good friends with Princess Milicia and Anastasia of Montenegro. These two are also known as the crow sisters.

Tsarina Alexandra Romanov needed a new spiritual advisor after her previous one died. Her old spiritual advisor was Dr. Philippe. He had helped her and Tsar Nicholas II conceive a son after only having daughters.

This gave the crow sisters the chance to introduce Rasputin to the Tsarina at a party. After all, they were the ones who helped find Dr. Phillippe in the first place.

The sisters told Alexandra about Rasputin’s healing abilities. She believed that he was the one person who could help her son Alexei, who suffered from hemophilia.

Alexei fell and scraped open his knee. Given his condition, he was losing lots of blood. However, when Rasputin touched Alexei, the bleeding stopped. This left Alexandra in shock and cemented her belief that Grigori had powers from God.

At this point, he was introduced as a healer to the Romanov family.

He gave drugs, such as opium and morphine, to Nicholas. He claimed these would help with any of his ailments. Nicholas became addicted and needed the drugs every day. With the man on the Russian throne needing him, Rasputin had his claws in the imperial family.

When World War One commenced, the Tsar left his family to fight alongside Russian soldiers. This left Alexandra alone, and Rasputin stepped in as her right-hand advisor.

Notorious With Women

While at the palace, one maid claimed that Rasputin had sexually assaulted her. Alexandra trusted him so much that she accused her maid of lying and fired her.

Women in St Petersburg read articles detailing Rasputin’s effects on Alexei’s hemophilia. This was built on the belief that Grigori was a holy man with powers.

Rasputin and his women followers often gathered in his apartment, where he would host meetings with them around a table. After meetings, orgies were common. One woman claimed that her sexual experience with Rasputin was so pleasurable that she fainted.

He often visited bathhouses with prostitutes. He would undress the women and beat them with a belt, claiming to beat the sin out of their souls. Afterward, they would have sex.

Authorities in Russia did not approve of Rasputin’s influence on Russian nobility or his sexual escapades.

Assassination

Russia was ripe for revolution. The war resulted in many Russian casualties, and the Tsarina trusted a man many thought to be mad.

Alexandra’s nephew, Prince Felix Yusupov, was one of the people who wanted Rasputin dead. He heard about Rasputin’s reputation with women and used his wife Irina to lure him away from his apartment.

He invited Rasputin into his home, claiming that Irina had a sex addiction that needed to be cleansed. Rasputin agreed to this and made his way to the Yusupov Palace.

Once there, he was led to a basement in the Yusupov Palace. He was encouraged to relax by eating and drinking while they waited for Irina to come downstairs.

Rasputin’s drink was spiked with cyanide to poison him, but it had no effect.

Felix ended up shooting Rasputin with a revolver. Afterward, he went upstairs to celebrate with his associates, one of whom was the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich.

After some time had passed, they went back downstairs to check on the body. As they drew closer, Rasputin lunged at Felix. Felix shook off Rasputin and ran upstairs to warn his associates.

Rasputin limped outside the mansion and crawled to the courtyard. Here, Yusupov and his associates shot Rasputin many times. They then loaded his body into a car and proceeded to drown it in a river of ice.

When Rasputin’s body was found - there was water in his lungs. This means he was still breathing even after getting shot so many times.

There were many assassination attempts throughout Rasputin’s time at the palace. However, this attempt was the one to lead to Rasputin’s murder.

Rasputin's Famed Penis

Rasputin’s penis was an impressive length. It measured up to 11 inches and was, apparently, as thick as a man’s wrist.

His reputation with women, as well as his anatomical endowments, made him a sexual idol amongst the ladies of Saint Petersburg.

After Rasputin’s death, there are two theories regarding his penis. One is that his body was mutilated after his assassination. The other is that an ex-lover removed it during the autopsy.

The penis eventually ended up in Paris, where a group of Russian women kept it inside a box.

In 1977, an American collector named Michael Augustine came across something believed to be Rasputin’s genitals. He purchased a storage locker in California belonging to Rasputin’s daughter, Marie Rasputin.

Inside, he found a jar containing Rasputin’s penis. However, after performing various tests, the object turned out to be a sea cucumber.

The actual penis, verified by historian Douglas Smith, was purchased from two French antique collectors. Dr. Igor Knyazkin, who worked at the Museum of Erotica, made the purchase.

The collectors had been keeping the penis in a wooden casket. The artifact was returned to Russia.

Where is Rasputin's Penis Now?

Rasputin’s severed penis traveled from Siberia to Paris and found its resting place at the Museum of Erotica in Russia.

The museum is home to various erotic and historical artifacts, from objects to art.

The penis is stored in a sealed glass container, available to the public eyes. Many believe that the penis has the healing properties Rasputin once did.

It is said that these healing properties can be experienced by simply looking at the organ. People believe that it can cure impotence and bestow fertility.

Conclusion

Rasputin’s story is loaded with adventure, deception, and mystery. Was he simply mad, or did he have powers that cannot be explained? The Tsarina, and many others, believed that he was gifted powers from God.

All that is left of this infamous spiritual advisor is his penis. Sealed in a jar and homed in the Museum of Erotica, it is believed to have healing powers reminiscent of Rasputin. Would you take a look?
